A public discussion "Vote for Europe, Vote for Science", organized by the University of Rijeka and Universitas Association, was held on Monday, April 8th, 2019, at the Rijeka City Hall.

The participants of the panel discussion were:

- Mr. Tomislav Sokol, Ph.D., Croatian Prime Minister's Envoy and candidate of the Croatian Democratic Union for Representative to the European Parliament

- Mr. Boris Jokić, Ph.D., Institute for Social Research in Zagreb

- Prof. Zoran Kurelić, Ph.D., Dean of the Faculty of Political Sciences of the University of Zagreb

- Mr. David Matthew Smith, Ph.D., Director of the Ruđer Bošković Institute

- Ms. Sanja Modrić, a columnist at Novi list

- Mr. Tonino Picula, current Croatian representative to the European Parliament.

The discussion was moderated by Ms. Nataša Božić Šarić, TV host and editor at the N1 Television.

The public discussion was held as part of the 17th Science Festival.

Professor Snježana Prijić-Samaržija, Ph.D., UNIRI Madam Rector, introduced the participants with the topic, stating: "This is not a campaign, but an invitation for everyone to go and vote." Madam Rector added that, as a sort of continuation of this public discussion, a section "Public Consultation" will be available on the UNIRI webpage. It will enable citizens to express their thoughts, which will be later summarized in the so-called "Rijeka Declaration" – a document that will make it clear to MEPs what citizens expect from them in terms of education policy.

Madam Rector concluded that everyone should vote for the representatives to the European Parliament, and the young must learn about responsible political behavior. People have to accept the responsibility of the EU membership and which will eventually lead to becoming equal EU citizens through realistic goals.
